Why Can't I Listen to the Audio Sermons?

Why can't I Listen to Audio Sermons or the Audio Bible?

Blue Letter Bible streams audio in using HTML5 which is compatible with all modern internet browsers. If you are receiving a message stating "Sorry, your browser does not support the HTML5 audio. Please update your browser." you can quickly resolve this issue by downloading Chrome or FireFox for free, or updating to the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer/Edge or Apple Safari for Mac users (Open the Mac App Store app and click on Updates. If there is an update for Safari, it will show up there.).

Why isn't the Audio Playing in my Media Player Program?

In order to improve the consistency, simplicity, and reliability of audio playback for all of our users, we have transitioned to HTML5 Audio, which allows you to play back the audio directly in your browser rather than having to rely on a third party media player. If you would prefer to listen to audio in your media player of choice, you can still download most audio commentaries by clicking on the [Download] on the series index page(s) for each author. Please note that the copyrights for our audio Bibles and some audio commentaries do not allow downloads; these items do not have a [Download] button.

What Is the Difference Between Streaming and Downloading?

Streaming describes the act of playing media in real time over the internet on one device when the media is saved on another. When you stream a file from the audio pages, the data that Blue Letter Bible has stored is streaming from our servers to your device. When you click on stream it can seem that you are downloading, but the asx file is basically a shortcut to our source of the media and if it becomes disconnected the streaming will stop.

Whereas, when media is downloaded from our website, the mp3 file is saved to your computer's or network media player's hard drive.

Why Stream Audio Sermons?

  • For users that do not want to store the data.
  • For some authors (Jon Courson, Rob Douglas, etc.), streaming insures that data can not be redistributed.

Why Download Audio Sermons?

  • Users can play any files they download at a later time without dependence on an internet connection.
  • Any files downloaded can be saved and used on an MP3 player.
